Dr. Taimish offers sedation dentistry for patients experiencing apprehension or dental anxiety. Providing quality patient-focused dental care is our top priority at Norton Dental Hamilton. We offer sedation dentistry for children and adults so they may obtain the dental care they need with the fear of anxiety.

Sedation dentistry can also be used to benefit patients with extensive dental needs, sensitive teeth, strong gag reflex, and medical conditions.

We provide two methods of sedation dentistry: oral sedation and conscious sedation. Oral sedation uses dental drugs in the form of pills, such as hydroxyzine, triazapam, zaleplon, diazepam, and lorazepam. Conscious sedation is administered either by inhaling laughing gas (nitrous oxide) or via an I.V with a local anesthetic.

Sedation dentistry side effects may include a brief unawareness of time or a foggy memory of time spent in the dental chair. A dental procedure that may have taken several hours to complete, may feel like minutes to a patient.

During your consult, your dentists will ask you a series of questions pertaining to your overall health and any medications you are taking in order to reduce any possible health concerns.

Individual health needs and the complexity of the procedure will determine the method of sedation used. A fuzzy memory of a patient’s time in the dental chair and a brief unawareness of time are common temporary sedation dentistry side effects.

Dental insurance coverage and the method of sedation will determine sedation dentistry costs. To schedule your consultation with our sedation dentistry professionals, call (905) 388-7330 today.
