A root canal procedure is used to remove infected and damaged pulp, while still preserving the tooth and avoiding extraction. Our dentists frequently perform root canal procedures using minimally invasive techniques to extract infected pulp.

Root canal symptoms or pain may include tender or swollen gums, persistent pimple on the gum, jaw ache, tooth ache, pain when applying pressure, and prolonged sensitivity to cold/hot.

Root canal procedures are accomplished by isolating and numbing the area being treated, creating a small opening in the infected tooth, and removing any damaged or infected pulp. A dental crown is then placed on top of the treated tooth to further protect the tooth against future damage and infection.

Once the procedure is completed, root canal pain may consist of minor discomfort or tenderness, which usually lasts two to three days. Root canal complication are uncommon. However, restorative dentistry procedures does not prevent future infections or cavities. With daily oral hygiene, a root canal treated tooth may last as a life-time.

Our restorative dentists strive to preserve natural tooth structure by avoiding tooth extraction whenever possible. A root canal procedure not only helps preserve and treat the infected tooth, it also protects other teeth from strain and wear.

For patients in need of emergency pain relief, we offer emergency root canal treatment for both current and new patients.

The number of teeth being treated and the complexity of each case determine root canal treatment cost. To schedule your root canal consult at Norton Dental Hamilton, call (905) 388-7330.
